    Description

    An unique dissecting microscope, Vérick-type with its house-shape in wood, made and used by the French painter and engraver Théodore Chauvel (1831-1909) who was passionate amateur of micrography and microscopes.

    The microscope is a Vérick-type simple dissecting microscope, a little larger than the usual model.
    On a contemporary box, a handwritten note indicates “verres de microscope. doublets du microscope construit par Th. Chauvel”. (lenses for microscope. Doublet  for the microscope built by Th. Chauvel).
    The microscope, very nicely made in a hard and nice wood, preserved its original mirror, its stative for the doublets which can be moved up and down and moved horizontaly.
    Its preserves three original lenses of different magnifications and some small glass for preparing slides. One box is by Nachet.
    Unfortunalty, the microscope lost is stage and preserves only a glass, which seems original and which can be put (but not srewed) on the wooden house.
    The microscope is otherwise in pristine and working condition.
    A very interesting microscope made by a demanding and well-known French amateur of micoscopy.
    The stand measures 35x21x13 cm.
