Until recently, samurai armor was hard to come by and only accessible from Japan. But today there are growing inventories from China that are flooding the market with replicas. The armor from China may look nice, but it lacks the quality and pride of the samurai armor made in Japan. To ensure that I could acquire a "made in Japan' armor, I patiently scouted for family heirloom pieces that would show up on the local Nippon market.
The armor from Japan was used not only for battle, but in later years for cultural and historical events. In many areas of the Japan countryside, there are still events where the people practice the old traditions( Kamakura Festival, Fukushima Samurai Festival, Nikko Samurai Procession, to name a few)  This particular armor was purchased from the Kagawa prefecture of the Shikoku region in Japan.
As you can see, the armor has a wonderful vintage appearance. From the intricate metal work to the detailed patterns on the silk, this armor is a great addition to any space.
