Description
This Gurley Transit or Theodolite has two telescopes that are 11” and should extend to 12 ½”. The extra scope is mounted parallel with the main telescope and fitted with a flange and disk for adjustment. This was efficient for sighting up or down a vertical shaft. It has been described as a Mining, Engineers, and Tunneling Transit. There is no serial number and this places it in the 1880-1900 date range. It is in as found condition with an untouched patina of tarnish, heavy in some areas. There are no cracks in the lenses and they function. The auxiliary lens adjustment only extends partway, possibly a worn thread. Its height adjustment works and locks. The level holds fluid. The original case is sturdy and shows heavy use with marks, scuffs, and stains. Most of the strap is missing, the latches need screws, and there is no key. The original stand shows heavy wear and is sturdy for display; it ships separately.
Please look at the photographs as they are considered part of the description.
I guarantee it to be old and as described.
