    Features and further details
    How to clean gold jewelry
If your gold jewelry looks a little dull, don't worry - after a thorough cleaning, it will
look like new again! You don't even need to use expensive jewelry cleaning
products to make your gold sparkle and Shine. A few simple home life hacks that
you can find right at home will help you restore the old Shine to your jewelry.
Of course, these methods are effective, but cleaning products that we suggest you
to consider, will return your medals to its original state.
    Method1
    Cleaning jewelry with dish soap
    Step 1
Add a few drops of dish washing liquid to a basin of warm (not hot) water.
Mix gently. While regular tapwater is fine, for even better results, you can use
carbonated or boiled water. The carbonation in these fluids can help to remove
    accumulated dirt and debris.
    • Do not use hot water, especially if your jewelry contains fragile gems. Some
precious stones, such as opals, can crack when the temperature changes
sharply. Similarly, do not use ice water, because the mud will harden more
    and become harder.
    • This method can also be used to polish jewelry with gold fillers.
    Step 2
Soak the gold jewelry in the solution.
Leave the decoration in the water for about 15-30 minutes. As it soaks, warm
soapy water penetrates into cracks and crevices, loosening hard-to-reach dirt
    accumulations.
    Step 3
Gently rub the decoration with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Wipe each piece of jewelry individually, paying special attention to nooks and
crannies where dirt can hide. Use a very soft brush - the softer the better. Hard
bristles can scratch the surface of the decoration. If your jewelry is gold-plated (as
opposed to solid gold), a stiff bristle can even completely remove the dusty layer
of gold! However, if there is any gap that cannot be cleaned, take a cotton swab
and gently rub it along the crack.
Special brushes designed for this purpose suit the best, but the smallest soft
brushes (for example, eyebrow brushes) are also suitable.
    Step 4
Wash each part in warm running water.
A good rinse will help to remove any remaining dirt that has not been removed
with a brush. Again, make sure that the water is not hot, especially if your jewelry
has fragile stones. Do not allow the water to flow in a very powerful stream, as it
can remove the stone from the frame.
If you are rinsing jewelry in the sink, close the drain or cover the drain so that you
don't accidentally lose the jewelry if it slips out of your hands. Alternatively, rinse
the decorations in a macaroni strainer or a metal filter for coffee or tea.
    Step 5
Pat dry with a soft cloth.
Then let the jewelry dry completely on a towel before putting it on again. If your
jewelry is still wet, it may retain moisture on the skin, which may cause minor skin
    irritation.
    Method 2
    Cleaning jewelry with ammonia
    Step 1
Know when to clean with ammonia.
Ammonia is a powerful cleaner, but from a chemical point of view it can be
caustic. Avoid using ammonia too often to clean gold jewelry to prevent wear and
tear - ammonia is a good tool for periodic (but not frequent) "deep cleaning".
Ammonia can damage some materials that are often used in jewelry. Do not use
ammonia to clean gold jewelry containing platinum or pearls.
    Step 2
Add one part ammonia to six parts water.
Stir gently so that the solution becomes homogeneous.
    Step 3
Soak the decoration in the mixture for no more than one minute.
Do not allow decorations to be in the mix with ammonia for too long - ammonia,
being a strong agent, can cause corrosion.
To quickly remove all the decorations at once, use a kitchen strainer, as when
making pasta. Either pull out the decorations using a hand strainer, or flip the bowl
into a larger strainer in the sink.
    Step 4
Wash the jewelry thoroughly under running water. Close the drain or cover the
sink drain to avoid losing precious jewelry that could slip out of your
hands. Alternatively, just use the strainer you used to remove ammonia from
    jewelry.
    Step 5
Gently dry the decoration with a soft polishing cloth.
Allow the jewelry to dry completely on a towel before putting it on.
    Method 3
    Cleaning jewelry with glued in
    gemstones
    Step 1
You should know which jewelry should be kept dry.
Do not submerge jewelry with precious stones embedded in the frame (like many
earrings) in water. Warm water can loosen the glue, which can cause gemstones
to fall out, especially when thoroughly brushing. For these types of jewelry, use a
special cleaning method that eliminates complete immersion in water.
    Step 2
Wipe the jewelry with a damp soapy cloth.
Make a small amount of the dish washing solution, as in the first method. Dip a
soft, gentle towel in the solution and gently RUB the jewelry.
    Step 3
"Wash" the decoration with a cloth soaked in plain water.
Gently pat the jewelry with a damp cloth, trying to absorb the remaining soap
    suds.
    Step 4
After cleaning, put or hang the items upside down.
Let the decorations dry this way. By allowing the jewelry to dry upside down, you
allow all remaining moisture to drain away so that it doesn't soak into the frame.
    Method 4
    Using boiled water
    Step 1
    Know when boiling is appropriate.
The gold itself can be boiled without problems. However, boiling delicate
gemstones (such as opals, pearls, corals, and moonstones) can cause them to
crack or damage, especially if the jewelry has cooled down before boiling. Boiling
is also a bad idea for jewelry with embedded gems, as this can weaken the effect
of the glue. However, if you want to clean heavily soiled jewelry made entirely of
gold, or gold jewelry containing "durable" gemstones (such as diamonds), boiling
is a great way to clean.
    Step 2
    Boil the water.
You don't need to boil a lot of water - just enough to submerge all the jewelry in it.
While you wait for the water to boil, put your gold jewelry in a bowl or other
container that won't be damaged by boiling. Metal bowls / plates are a good
    choice.
Arrange the decorations in a plate or bowl so that no decoration covers the other -
water should penetrate into each decoration.
    Step 3
Carefully pour hot water over the decorations.
Be very careful not to spill or spray too quickly - boiling water can cause serious
burns. When all the decorations are completely submerged in water, you have
    added enough water.
    Step 4
Wait for the water to cool down.
When you can comfortably submerge your hands in the water, you can get the
jewelry. After a good boil, wipe each piece of jewelry with a soft brush, then Pat it
with a soft towel and let it air dry completely.
Don't be afraid if the water turns out to be dirty - it's good! Because boiling water
dilutes dirt, wax, soot, etc. Accumulated on your jewelry, it can float to the surface
of the water. The dirtier your water looks, the more dirt you have removed from
    your jewelry!
    Frequently Asked Questions and
    Answers
Is it possible to use vinegar to clean gold jewelry?
Vinegar with baking soda can be used to clean gold jewelry, but this method
should only be used for durable 14-Karat gold jewelry. Or you can try using only
distilled plain or Apple cider vinegar (less acidic than white vinegar); fill the jar with
vinegar, add the decorations, and let them soak in for 10-15 minutes - if
necessary, you can gently rub them with a soft toothbrush. Since vinegar is acidic,
it is not recommended to use it for delicate gold jewelry or in cases where you are
afraid that the glue may dissolve.
What is the best way to clean gold and diamond jewelry?
Warm water with a small amount of mild dish washing detergent is a good and
gentle solution for cleaning gold and diamond jewelry. First, prepare warm water
and a solution for washing dishes, then soak the jewelry in it for 20-40 minutes. If
necessary, wipe the jewelry with a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush. Wash off in
clean, cool water and place on a clean kitchen or paper towel to air dry. If
necessary, the cleaning process can be repeated.
Can you clean the tarnished gold yourself?
Yes, tarnished gold can be cleaned with a mild dish washing detergent and warm
water. Use a soft cleaning cloth or cotton swab and gently blot or wipe the gold
jewelry. Place the wet gold jewelry on a clean kitchen or paper towel to dry. After
drying, polish. If this does not help, take the product to the jeweler for proper
    cleaning.
Can I use baking soda to clean gold jewelry?
You can use baking soda to clean gold jewelry; it usually needs to be first turned
into a paste, then applied and washed off or wiped off.
    Step 1
Mix three parts of baking soda with one part of the water.
Mix the ingredients until a thick paste forms. The paste should have a consistency
    similar to toothpaste.
    Step 2
Apply the paste with a cotton swab.
You can also use a sponge to apply the paste. Cover the entire piece of gold with
paste. Then place the piece of gold in a small plastic cup or container.
    Step 3
Pour vinegar over the gold. Use food grade vinegar. The gold should be
completely immersed in vinegar. Wait five minutes for the gold to solidify in the
    vinegar.
    Step 4
Wash and dry the gold. Place the gold under warm running water. Wash the gold
thoroughly until the baking soda and vinegar solution is completely removed. Wipe
the gold coins with a soft cloth.
    • If the gold is still dirty, repeat steps one through four or use other special
cleaning agents .Also, try not to rub the gold with a toothbrush to clean
it. You can accidentally scratch it by wiping it with baking soda and a
    toothbrush.
    • Do not use this method for gold items that contain pearls and precious stones. A
combination of baking soda and vinegar can damage them.
    How to clean 300-year-old gold?
The same methods should work, but if you are concerned about possible damage,
contact a professional jeweler and get their opinion or ask them to do it for you.
Will alcohol wipes be able to clean gold?
Yes; alcohol will not damage gold. Just be careful: the higher the probe, the softer
    the gold.
How to clean a gold chain with hardened talcum powder and soap?
Soak the chain in hot water with a drop of dish washing detergent for five
minutes. Remove it, brush it with a soft toothbrush, then rinse it well and dry it
    well.
How to clean a very fragile gold chain?
Use a gold cleaning solution and a small cotton swab to clean the gold chain.
