Description
Rare Antique Spencer Buffalo Stereoscope Fully Functional Complete w Box. This is a wonderful stereoscope with all three objectives (1.7x, 3.4x, and 4.8x). The original wooden case still has the functional locking key and all three sets of eyepieces (going up to 60x max magnification). The white paint on the stage is chipping but could easily be replaced. All parts are working, though some could use some light lubrication. This has been a dream to use, but I recently got a new one. Sad to see it go. Check out the pictures and be sure you want to give this beauty a nice home, sold as-is with no returns.Spencer Buffalo USA Binocular Microscope / Stereoscope / Vintage Scientific
Spencer Buffalo
Recognized as the first American to successfully make microscopes in the U.S, Charles Spencer published his first catalog in 1838. In 1865, he founded the company C.A. Spencer & Sons in Canastota, New York, but moved the business to Geneva, New York in 1873 to manufacture microscopes for the Geneva Optical Co. These instruments were marked "C.A. Spencer & Sons for Geneva Optical Company." Following the death of Charles Spencer in 1881, the business was carried on by his son Herbert, who moved the company to Buffalo, New York in 1890.
A nice piece for any scientific equipment collector.
