Inches. This photograph is of Mefodiy Platonovich Yaremchuk. He was a colonel during WWII and commander of 619th rifle regiment of the 203rd Zaporozhskaya Red Bannered Rifle Division (see screenshot 1). You can see his regiment's glorious battle path on screenshot 2. He was awarded many orders and medals including: 2 orders of the Red Banner, order of the Great Patriotic War 1st class, order of Suvorov 3rd Class, order of the Red Star, defense of Stalingrad medal, capture of Budapest medal.
He received the first Red Banner for: During the offensive battles on August 11, 1943 near Golaya Dolina in the Stalinskaya region he took
possession
of an enemy's fortified stronghold with his right flank. He took on the counterattacks of the superior enemy forces and every time he made them retreat to their initial positions and suffer substantial losses. In the pursuit of the retreating enemy, 619th rifle regiment, under the command of comrade Yaremchuk, fulfilled all the combat tasks. On September 9, 1943, when units of Wehrmacht's 387th infantry division retreated to previously prepared lines of defense, comrade Yaremchuk successfully organized a breach of the enemy's defenses and at 19:00 took possession of the village Donzass. In that battle comrade Yaremchuk destroyed up to 250 enemy soldiers and officers and provided the successful advance of other units of the division. At 8:00 on September 10th, 1943, on his own initiative, went into offense, and during the day, while scattering and destroying the enemy's cover squads, he advanced 18 kilometers and first took possession of Nadezhdovka Vtoraya and height 166.9 of Stalinskaya Region. He entered enemy's flank and provided the offense of the division. In the entire day of battle on September 10th, 1943, 619th rifle regiment scattered and destroyed up to a battalion of enemy's infantry.
He received the order of Suvorov 3rd Class for: On May 14, 1944, in the offensive battles to clear the enemy's bridgehead on the left bank of the river Dnestr Yaremchuk's regiment had the task to breach enemy's heavily defended lines. Comrade Yaremchuk prepared his men well and on the night of 14-15 May 1944 he personally led his men into battle, inspired by the heroism of their commander, his men breached the enemy's defenses. On May 15th, 1944, when the enemy tried to counterattack to regain their previous positions near village Dubosary, 619th rifle regiment was first slightly
oppressed
but then the enemy was thrown back and the positions were recovered. While recovering grounds and personally leading men into another battle, comrade Yaremchuk did not leave battle formations.
He received the order of the Great Patriotic War 1st Class for: During offensive battles on January 29th, 1944, Yaremchuk's regiment bravely and decisively attacked the enemy near the region of height 102.3, possessed and kept Petrovka. Thereby split the enemy's defenses into parts. On February 5, 1944, after a surprise attack in the fog, his regiment took Borisovka in the Dnepropetrovsk region, where they captured over 100 automobiles with different loads, up to 30% were functional.
